200 Miles for Melanoma

Story

Hi there,

At 7am on the 7th of February 2024 I'll be attempting The Delirious West 200 miler, a 340km race along the world famous Bibbulmun Track between Northcliffe and Albany. An epic adventure of jaw dropping ocean cliffs, relentless dunes, skyscraper high forests, treetop walks, racing for the shuttle buses, jet ski rides, squeaky clean beaches. Sounds fun right? It’s grown to become an iconic wonder of the trail running scene and already labelled as one of the TOP 10 hardest 200 milers in the WORLD. Challenging, you bet! There's no guarantee I'll finish but I'm going to give it a red hot try!

I'll toe the start line with my Husband, Justin, by my side and we'll be supported on our journey by a crew of legends, who are donating their time to help us get to the finish.

So why put myself through this? On the 8th May 2009, Melanoma stole Dad from us. He was just 59 years young! Dad, or Kiwi, as he was known to his many mates, loved the outdoors. He was a competitive cyclist, avid sailor and keen Hash House Harrier (On, On). Unfortunately his passion for sports was also his undoing, spending hours baking in the hot Australian Sun.

I’ve created this fundraising page to help Melanoma Institute Australia reach zero deaths from melanoma. Australia has the highest rates of melanoma in the world. Melanoma is the most common cancer affecting 20 to 39-year-old Australians and one Australian is diagnosed with the disease every 30 minutes. It is estimated 1300 Australians will die from melanoma this year. With your help, the funds we raise will support MIA’s world-class research, treatment, and education programs to save lives from melanoma.
