Lily's Fundraiser
Story
Hi there,
I’ve created this fundraising page in memory of Gina Savage, who passed away in 2023 after a courageous battle with metastatic melanoma.
Gina was 20 years old when she was diagnosed with melanoma. She subsequently underwent many invasive surgeries including bowel resections, 60 lymph node removals and 17 melanoma tumour removals. At 27 years old, her ovaries were removed and melanoma had taken her ability to become a mum. Gina touched the lives of many and supported me through my own cancer journey with chondrosarcoma. The Bridge to Brisbane in September will be the first time I’ve run 10km since having a large piece of metal and screws fixated into my femur—and I’ll be doing it in her honour.
This fundraiser will support vital melanoma research. One Australian dies from melanoma every six hours. Just 15 minutes of sun exposure at a UV index of 6 or above is enough to cause DNA damage.
The more we understand melanoma, the better we can prevent, detect, treat it and ultimately, save lives.
Please consider donating or sharing to help make a difference.
